weekend update

I miss when Dennis Miller used to do Weekend Update on SNL.

Anyway - my week has been hetic - so here is a quick recap.

Monday - Cold

Tuesday - Snow

Wednesday - Snow

Thursday - Snow

Friday - Cold / Foggy

Saturday - Cold / Foggy

That's it. Not really. Exciting parts - Reno interview which isn't finished, but then my contract job offering me "Part Time / Full Time" status. Working great hours, great pay without benefits with the downside - could end at anytime. Bus accident that has now sent me to the Doctors, but good drugs and massive migrane headaches. Nothing getting done this weekend. I just realized the kids go off track in just days and will be with my mom for 2 weeks. Two weeks to myself. Since B works the night shift, I'm more or less "solo". So I see a few pink nights without daycare needed, daycare not needed at all when I work, a few "Girl's Night Out" I'm sure with Mary Ann to catch a movie and I have no idea what else. Problably some web related catching up and just in general getting stuff together for the holidays. Heck - with them gone, I could for sure take some time off and fly to some out of state interviews and not have to worry about them. Sounds all great and dandy, but not hearing them for 2 weeks.. which is by far the longest I've gone without the two of them together... will be lonely. Since they were 3 and 4 they have gone to either Grandma's or the in-laws for a week at a time, or 3 weeks at a time, but one child always stayed with me, this will be a first of doing the solo mom gig. Nerves have now settled in. :-/
something fun

Entertainment while I'm out this morning from Shanni's site, that was taken from Angel's site. Go. Have fun.

When it snows, it blizzards

I have been taking the bus for the past few days to avoid driving Denver traffic. The saying goes - "...when 3 snowflakes fall, traffic will come to a 3 hour halt". Trying to save myself from any bodily harm in my own car, I take the bus. Wednesday morning, a few blocks from the station, we are rear-ended by another bus. So yes. Major jolt to the bus and my body. Nothing hurting at that time, I went off to work, like about 30 other people did that day, and now 2 days later, I sit here in extreme pain. Searing pain in the neck down to my right shoulder. Had to see the dr. good good meds coming my way, muscle relaxers, hmmmm so let it snow again.. for the 4th day, I'm hitting the sack with some good stuff.

This is my first Dear X letter - due tomorrow. Many people, reasons I wanted to do this on. I'm going to thank Sucky Boss.

Dear Sucky Boss,

Thank you for letting me go at work when you did. It's been a real "treat" these past few weeks wondering how my family and I will survive without your paycheck that barely feeds my family, but I have found out one main thing with my family. We are surviors. We are strong. We are a family. It's been a "trick" trying to make ends meet, and even a small hit in the face that I'm not ready to do what I love full time yet. But I had to go through hell and back to find my place, and I knew that in time I would be in the better place and you wouldn't. You are still without a graphic designer. I am now working full time, with better pay, a better work environment, on better projects. That is a "treat" for me that I have earned, worked for and crave in work abilities. I only hope that you can "trick" some other poor soul into thinking that working for you is all that.. and that they will have the upper hand and use you like I did you.. you were a stepping stone to the next step. I try not think this way normally, I try to live a Golden Rule - do unto others as you would like done onto you. I could only take your crap so much before I started wishing it back on you.

Thank you - you let me struggle and I have come back on top.

Me.

Interview

The interview with Reno went well today. We talked for a hour on the phone, which I take as a good sign. Told the Recruiter that if the company thinks I'm a good match, that I'll even fly out next week to meet them in person if needed. I then told my Project Manager of what is going on, I mean, I'm only working contract and I thought by telling her that I'm progessively looking, she might take the hint and try to hire me full time. She did. I'm to let her know if I do get a job, wether it's in town or out of town and maybe at that time she let the company know that I might go and that might spur them into hiring me. We shall see.

It's snowing now in Denver - joy. Took me a hour by the city buses to get to work, and took 2 hours to get home by the city bus. Had all means of leaving early so I could tell that Director I can no longer work for her and never got home in time. Roads are slippery too.. ain't happening.

Thinking "out side of the box" - I laid it on the line to B that though I am looking for work here in Denver, I'm stepping up job alerts out of town too. I have added Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and I'll add Florida later tonight to my job watch list which already has Las Vegas, Phoenix and Tucson on it. Not sure if I want to go out that far, but we need to go somewhere and we need it now. I'm not revealing my age, but I'm not a spring chicken anymore and I need to find something that will last at least 3 years so I can get my act together and put some money aside and prepare for my golden years. Period. I think in the graphic industry I have about 3 to 5 years left before the young ones come in and pull me out of the water with their talent. I got to enjoy this and have fun before my time is up. Damn.. just shot me now!

Just my thought process. :)

General Rambling

Lets see.. Postive Thoughts for today -

1) Working and having fun.
2) Being disappointed in figuring out my hours and paycheck last week and then realizing the pay covered 1 week.. not 2 and it was pretty darn good. :)
3) Possible Job in Reno, NV - I'm even going to try and fly out there this week if the company is interested in me as I am in them.
4) Sending D back off to school after being sick all last week.. I can only take so much of bouncing on the walls.
5) Open House this weekend, it was great.. now to set up times for my other great customers.

Oh - I think I have found a new great friend! Bonkrod loves Coca-Cola just as much as I do. I don't even think I can go into detail of what I have, but I thought I would share a small taste of what I have out -

This is all on my fireplace mantal. What isn't shown is the 15 different shapes and styles Coca Cola tins packed away, the CC silverware, apron, dishes, cups, mugs, jacket, blanket, pillows, my car that was bought because it is red, puzzles turned into posters, phone, a few other bottles, and cans from around the world, that are safely put away. We figured it out once that we have about 900 items, and that if we were to stop buying CC and drink from the supply in the collection, I don't think we would need to purchase anything for about a year. Yes! Really! The value on some of this stuff - since most are not orginals, I can guarantee most did not come cheap. When B and I were at Barnes & Nobles one night, I looked a CC collection book over and most of the glass bottles are worth $5.00, some of the rare ones, much higher. Having them collected in a 6 pack, $40 and in the same pack, $60. When it comes to the bottles, I collect the full 6 pack.

People ask what are my favorites -

My purse (last picture, with handles) made with Italian Coke cans from my sister
Strangest aquirement - a friend stole a CC "Aruba" pen from his sister, he knew it would make a great story
Favorite Moment - B winning $150 in the casino's and I was able to go on a shopping spree in the Coca Cola store in Las Vegas. I cried when we went to the musem. :)
Favorite Coca Cola art work - fighing with art teacher and winning - my best work ever:

The can that started it all - my dad did advertising and for a promotion for the city, he designed an ad that went on cans throughout the state of New Mexico.
The puzzle (the biggest and 2nd that started it all) - was a 2000 piece collage of CC stuff. My room-mate gave it to me to put together when waiting for him to get off duty then go party. It would take 2 - 3 months to finish it, then I would do it over, about 3 times. The final round we decided to glue it to some poster board and make a picture out of it. It has seen its days. There is a 2nd 2000 piece collage poster added, it too has seen it's day. I'm saving the bucks to put them in glass and have them framed properly.

While I'm posting photos - have to add this last one in. This is my sister's car in Italy. Mt. Etna is a little pissed right now.. you can only imagine what my sister is thinking when this stuff is all over the ground and is tracked into the house!

Drama & the Single Life

I found this journal back in July, but didn't bookmark it for others to read because she seemed to be in the private section of journals. When I say that, I look at journals that have all the tag-boards, links to other Blogs, favorite reads, movies (ie - my journal) they are open to everyone to read.

Other Journals - that have no links, just a few of their close friends links and small tidbits of themselves..I consider a private journal, though it's public for viewing. Does this make sense? Anyway - it was her Blog Birthday and I wrote her and said thanks for the reading. To me, looking at her age, her life - she seems to have it so together. I only wish that when I was at her age, I had it so together. She has a family background of closeness that I wish for my children. I'm close with my family, but she has that tradition of family is near family and you grow up together as family. Of course.. in the same breath, I'm looking for ways to get away from my mother-in-law so figure that one out.

Anyway - to me, she has become a new friend. A new pen pal and I can't wait to see what happens to her next. Her job is exciting, I put her catering skills as an item on my "if I could be someone else for a day" list. I think that would be neat to work the crowd and be the one in control of a big party. She took a test.. and I took it too.. no wonder I like her - I'm the same person...
